Carl Jacobs Officially Files for Re-Election

Anchorage, AK – Incumbent Anchorage School Board member Carl Jacobs officially declared his candidacy for re-election, filing today with the Anchorage Municipal Clerk.

Twice elected as Vice President of the Anchorage School Board, Jacobs led the charge in developing policies focused on enhancing student wellness, improving reading and math proficiency, and equipping Alaska’s future workforce with vital college career and life readiness skills, including financial literacy and civic engagement.

His priorities for a second term are centered on advancing initiatives that bolster independent living skills, enhance career and technical education, and ensure equitable access to quality education programs, such as optional and charter schools.

“Education is the cornerstone of Alaska’s future. My commitment to Anchorage’s students, teachers, and families is stronger than ever,” said Jacobs. “I pledge to continue collaborating with local, state, and federal stakeholders to ensure every child has the resources and opportunities they need to succeed and to recruit and retain hardworking education professionals.”

“I’ve worked with Carl both as a community member and now as an elected colleague,” said West Anchorage Assembly Member Anna Brawley. “Carl works tirelessly every day for the kids of Anchorage, from being a foster parent to navigating difficult budget decisions for the district. He is an exceptional strategic leader.”

Carl’s re-election campaign has secured endorsements from over a dozen Anchorage legislators, seven Anchorage Assembly members, and a host of Union organizations representing thousands of educators, paraprofessionals, and support staff. Labor endorsements include the Alaska AFL-CIO, Anchorage Education Association, APEA/AFT EPIC, Teamsters Local 959, and Public Employees Local 71.

Honored in 2022 as a member of the “Top 40 Under 40” cohort for his excellence in both professional and community arenas, Carl lives in Anchorage with his wife Alicia, where they have dedicated the past decade to serving as licensed therapeutic foster parents, caring for more than 50 at-risk adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
