Meet Carl Jacobs
After moving to Anchorage in 2008, I married my wife Alicia, a lifelong Alaskan. Together, we raised her son Devin, who has since graduated from the Anchorage School District and started his own family with his wife Nicole, a proud ASD educator. For more than a decade, Alicia and I have served as licensed treatment foster parents for more than 50 at-risk adolescents from diverse backgrounds. This experience served as the catalyst for my run for office in 2021 and has provided a unique perspective that informs my goals and priorities as a member of the ASD School Board every day.
My professional career has spanned multiple opportunities in both the public and private sectors, which allowed me to improve the lives of vulnerable Alaskans and provide services Anchorage residents depend on. Our Municipality is unique in its small-town feel and strong sense of community. I have enjoyed further bolstering that dynamic by organizing volunteerism events through charities and non-profits in our state.
I was elected to multiple positions of leadership within the Alaska State Employees Association (ASEA/AFSCME Local 52), including the role of President within their Anchorage Chapter which represents over 3,000 public sector workers. I also served on the organization’s State Executive Board, which provides governance and oversight on behalf of more than 8,000 government employees across Alaska.
I was honored by the Alaska American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations in 2020, being named “Young Union Member of the Year.” In 2022, I was honored by the Alaska Journal of Commerce as a member of the “Top 40 under 40” cohort, an award given to top young professionals who exemplify excellence in professional and community service.
As a school board member, it has been my honor and privilege to serve the students, families, and educators of our diverse community. Together, we are responsible for ensuring that our schools provide a safe, nurturing, and challenging learning environment for all students to reach their full potential. Since being elected, my goal has been to create a better educational experience for all students in our district, and I am proud to say that we have made significant progress toward this goal. Still, much work remains to be done – so I respectfully ask for your vote in the April 2, 2024, Anchorage Municipal Election.
